Govt plans to introduce production linked schemes 2.0 for specialty steel; seeks suggestions from industry stakeholders

The federal government is planning to introduce the second version of the PLI scheme for specialty metal to spice up manufacturing of value-added metal within the nation, Union Minister of Metal Jyortiraditya Scindia stated on Friday.

The minister was talking on the PLI Scheme for Specialty Metal MoU signing occasion within the nationwide capital. It was attended by the businesses chosen to take a position underneath the Rs 6,322-crore scheme.

“At this time is a vital day within the historical past and way forward for the metal business. PLI 1.0 isn’t a full cease, it’s the starting of the journey. Our ministry is already PLI 2.0,” he knowledgeable the contributors of the primary version of PLI for specialty metal.

The minister additional requested the business stakeholders to share their strategies and suggestions so the subsequent PLI Scheme for specialty metal could be ready on the earliest.

As many as 27 metal corporations signed 57 memorandum of agreements (MoUs) with the Ministry of Metal on the occasion to supply coated/plated metal merchandise, excessive power/wear-resistant metal, specialty rails, alloy metal merchandise, metal wires and electrical metal.

This may see an extra funding of Rs 30,000 crore within the home metal sector, resulting in a capability addition of 25 million tonne every year and creating 55,000 new job alternatives.

Minister of State (MoS) for Metal Faggan Singh Kulaste stated the scheme has acquired large response from events and can show to be a “sport changer” for the business.

The nation is transferring in the direction of the elevated output of value-added metal and utilization of new-age applied sciences within the sector, he added.

The Union Cupboard in July 2021 accepted the PLI scheme to spice up the manufacturing of speciality metal in India.

The highest 5 metal corporations — Tata Metal, JSW Metal, JSPL, AMNS India and SAIL — dominate the listing of qualifiers underneath the PLI scheme for specialty metal.

Moreover, companies like Gallant Metalliks, Kalyani Steels, Shyam Metalics Flat Merchandise and Sunflag Iron and Metal have been chosen underneath the PLI scheme.
